DTLA Fire Hydrant

I came up from the subway stairs hurrying to work. The day was a cool overcast day in what has been a hot late summer. Coming out of the subway was a relief from the dark crowded station. Inside of me was a tight feeling of the stress of getting to work. Then suddenly I saw this fire hydrant and some cones.

DTLA Cones

I felt their calm and their dignity. I wanted to have that too.

For a moment with my found objects.

Before the Adventure

What was before the adventure. What did it all look like before the journey or before you knew that there was somewhere else to go and something new to become. It has always been there. Always in front of you – always around you – always where everyone can see it. Ready to be stepped into.

Spiritual experience vs. religious experience

At the edge of land with the edge of the ocean lapping at my feet
At the edge of land with the edge of the ocean lapping at my feet

What is a religious experience? Does it involve having a personal experience with God?

I can be at the land’ send at the beach with the ocean’s fringe licking and tickling my feet. The universe opens up to me. The ocean’s water contains the history of evolution and at the same time contains the present. It is the same ocean that touches the distant foreign shores of Japan, China, France, Israel, Africa …

This to me is to experience both the Sacred and the Profane.
